Jesse Gunter - Grade 6

Jeremy Thatcher Dragon Hatcher
    In this book there is a boy named Jeremy Thatcher on day after school he was trying to get away from marry Lou because she wanted to kiss but after that he stumbles his way into a magic store and finds this colorful dragon egg but he didn’t know that it is a dragon egg he thought that it was just a magic ball of some sort but to come and find out that it was a dragon egg on a full moon night he had to hatch the egg In a sertain way at 12:00 p.m. he had to say a very important poem kind of thing so that it would hatch.

The Outsiders - S. E. Hinton
In the book the out siders there are two gangs, the Greasers and the Socials.
In the book if you’re a Greaser walking alone you’ll get jumped. One of the Greasers named Johnny got jumped by four Social at one time after that he was even scared of is own shadow.
I think this book is very good I think that the author is really good at making books like this I give this a five ***** the best.

Ghost of Spirit Bear - Mikaelsen, Ben

In the book Ghost of Spirit Bear one of the guys in the book beat up a kid really bad that the kid became mentally retarded so the person that beat him up was sent away to an island as a punishment but on that island there was a giant white bear. That bear taught him not to do bad things.

 I think this book is really good I loved it I gives this a five star*****

Maze Runner - James Dashner
In the book the maze runner there are these robots that are a slime  gooy thing they are called grievers and if they sting you you’ll turn into one I think this book was good and I give it a 4 star rating****
 

Joseph Worack - Grade 8

Elijah of Buxton - Christopher Paul Curtis

Elijah of Buxton is about an African American boy who was the first child born free in Buxton, Canada. Elijah has a friend only known as the Preacher. Elijah has to go to America to find out who the preacher really is. This was an interesting and exciting book. But it could have had a longer ending.

Cracker; The Best Dog in Vietnam - Cynthia Kadohata

This book is about a dog named Cracker who is drafted into the Vietnam War. In this war dogs were used to sniff booby traps. Cracker, while in Vietnam, shares a soecial bond with her handler Rick. Eveen saving his life on many occasions. This book was good. I recommend it to every dog person or anyone who likes to read.

Skulduggery Pleasant; Sceptor of the Ancients Book 1 - Derek Landry

Skulduggery Pleasant is an ordinary guy. Except he's a skeleton! He and his sidekick fight an ancient evil to save the world. This book is a very good book full of magic and mischief. It is very fast paced and exciting.

Jurassic Park - Michael Crighton

Billionaire, Mr. Hamond, starts a genetic corporation on a remote island in South America. He invites a team of scientists to his island to inspect it. Also he brings his grandkids to prove the island is safe. Then everything goes wrong. This book was awesome. It is a great book for people of all ages.

Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief - Rick Riordan

This book is about a demigod named Percy Jackson. He's the son of Posiden. He goes to a camp for demi-gods and makes lots of friends. He and his freinds go on dangerous journies. I recommend this book to everyone.

Lost World - Michael Crighton

Ian Malcolm goes back to where it all happened. The dinosaurs survived the army and now his friend has gone to the island alone. This book is as good as the first. But more suspenseful. I recommend this book to everyone.

Megan Fierro 8th grade

Life As We Knew It by Susan Pfeffer, Science fiction

A meteor crashes into the moon causing it to come closer to the Earth.  Miranda and her family had to deal with lack of food and drastic weather change to survive.  This story taught me that life is very delicate and the slightest change can unbalance it.  Rating: 4****  

The Year of the Hangman by Gary Blackwood, Historical fiction

Creighton was kidnapped and sent to America from England during the Revolutionary War.  After meeting Benjamin Franklin, he changed his view about the Americans.  It was interesting how the author changed the historical facts to create an alternate ending.  Rating:  3 ***     

Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, Science fiction

Two boys discovered the plot of an evil carnival and found a way to destroy it.  The carousel can turn someone younger or older by the direction it spins.  The book is very metaphorical and deep in meaning.  Rating:  3***  

Lord of the Flies by William Golding, Adventure

A group of British boys stranded on an island after their plane crashed.  Without any adult, some of the boys became savages and terrorized the island.  I learned that circumstance can bring out the evil of people.  Rating:  4**** 

Up Close:  Frank Lloyd Wright by Jan Adkins, Biography

He was the most famous and renowned American architecture.  All of his projects were always over-budgeted and late, but they were very impressive.  I enjoyed this book because the author wrote it like telling a story rather than an informational piece.  Rating:  4.5  ****+

 

Kelsey Fierro  -  Grade 6 

The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, Fantasy

Percy Jackson found out that he is a demigod and was accused of stealing the master lightning bolt from Zeus. Percy and friends ventured to find the bolt and to return to Zeus in 14 days.  After reading this book, I learned much about Greek mythology and I loved it.  Rating:  5  

The Sea of Monster by Rick Riordan, Fantasy

Second book of this series, Percy and friends had to find the Golden Fleece to protect the border of camp half-blood.  He met his half brother who is a Cyclops.  I enjoy the many interesting creatures introduced in this book.  Rating:  4

The Titan’s Curse by Rick Riordan, Fantasy

The third book, Percy met the Hades’ kids and the quest was to find a “horrible” creature that could destroy Olympus.   Something terrible happened to one of the kids on the journey.  I like how this book described more Greek gods in the story.  Rating:  4  

The Battle of Labyrinth by Rick Riordan, Fantasy The fourth book, Percy discovered a secret entrance in camp half-blood and realized it was part of the Labyrinth which was created by Daedalus.  The demigods had a fierce battle with the army of Kronos.  I like the part when Grover found the great god Pan.  Rating:  5 The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan, Fantasy

The last book, Kronos was going to attack Olympus and demigods were totally outnumbered.  Percy and his friends fought very hard to protect Olympus.  This is the most exciting book of the series and I couldn’t put it down.  Rating:  5              

The  Name of This Book is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch, Mystery

Cass and Max-Ernest investigated the mystery of the dead magician.  They discovered the evil plot of the Midnight Sun and then rescued Benjamin from Ms. Mauvais and Dr. L.  The author has a very creative way of writing and it draws in the readers.  Rating:  4   

If You Are Reading This, It’s Too Late by Pseudonymous Bosch, Mystery

Cass and Max-Ernest were assigned a new mission from the secret society to find the Homunculus.  They used the Sound Prism to defeat the Midnight Sun and kept the “Secret” protected.  This book seems more like a science fiction than a mystery to me.  Rating:  3

The Pistachio Prescription -

A girl in a broken home is very unconfident about herself. But then an unexpected boyfriend and the election of the President might just change that. I love the real life situations.

For Your Eyes Only -

A girl and a boy  come from opposite families, highly dislike each other and live right next door! Will they come together when they need each other most? I like this book because I can relate to it.

A dog with no home finds a man to take care of him. But when he dies, the dog bounces between many homes. Will he ever find peace again? I like it because of the personality of the dog.

Toad Rage - Morris Gleltzman

Limpy, the toad, has always wondered why humans hate toads so much. So one day he decides he is going to find out. Will he make the journey? I love the personification the author uses.

Space Station 7th Grade - Jerry Spinelli

Jason, new to Junior High, is having issues fitting in. Even his friends get meaner. Will he survive? I like the book because it explains a little on how a boy's brain works.

Matilda Bone - Karen Cushman

Matilda has been sent to be an apprentice of a bonesetter. What a difference from living with a priest! Where everyone and everything contradicts what she has learned, will she survive? I love the humor.

Keeping the Moon - Laura Dessen

Colie Sparks was once a fat girl who everyone picked on. Not anymore since her Mom, who was fat too, became KIki Sparks. an amazing trainer. Colie is skinny, but the girls at school are still mean to her. Then she goes to Cobly for the summer and meets three very unsuspected friends and has a summer she will never forget. I loved this book for the message it carries.

This book is all about Honduras. It's culture, food, famous landmarks, and shops. It will inform you on a lot about this exotic country. I liked this book for it's informational content.

The Truth About Forever - Laura Dessen   Fiction

This book is a truly romantic book girls can absolutely fall in love with. It has a dead father, broken mom, and some unexpected friends. I loved this book because of the message.

The Midwive's Apprentice - Karen Cushman  Historical Fiction

A girl with no name, parents, or home has been found in a dung heap. The midwife needs an assistant and the girl needs a job. Will she suffice? I loved this book for the adventure.

Catherine Called Birdy - Karen Cushman   Historical Fiction

A knight's daughter's life isn't all it's cracked up to be. Too much sewing and acting-like-a-lady lessons almost bored her to tears. But then the father talks of marriage. Will they find the perfect husband? I loved this book because I could relate to her.

November Blue - Sharon M. Draper   Fiction

November's boyfriend dies and leaves her with a positive pregnancy test. The grandparents on the boyfriend's side want the baby. Will she give it up or keep it? I loved this book for the reality of it.

Jericho is finally seen by the warriors of Distinction (the coolest club in the school) as a somebody. So he tries out. Is it worth it? I liked the book for the message.

A very misunderstood incident happened to a girl who . With her life a mess and a new friend, will she pull through? I love this book because of the imagery.

1.  The Name of This Book is Secret by Pseudonymous Bosch, Mystery, rating - 4

Max-Ernest and Cassandra were chosen to be in a secret organization to protect the world from a very old evil Alchemist who was looking for the secret of eternal life.  I like how the author is like having conversations with the readers in the book over the course of the story

2.  If You Are Reading This, You're Too Late by Pseudonymous Bosch, Mystery, rating - 4

A sequel to The Name of This Book is Secret.  Max-Ernest and Cassandra had to prevent the evil Alchemist from bring the original first alchemist back to life.  I enjoy all the unexpected twists and turns in the story.

3.  This Book Is Not Good For You by Pseudonymous Bosch, Mystery, rating - 4

This is the final book of this series.  Max-Ernest and Cassandra had to stop the product of a special chocolate that could help the evil Alchemist to find the secret.  I like how this book concluded the series and tied up some of the loss ends

4.  The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey by Trenton Lee Stewart, Adventure,

rating - 4

The four children embarked on the journey to find Mr. Benedict who was missing and to stop his evil twin from finding a dangerous plant for his evil purpose.  The book makes you think and I like all the puzzles they had to solve.

1.  On My Honor by Marion Dane Bauer, Realistic Fiction, rating - 4

Joel's best friend Tony drowned.  He felt responsible but he didn't want to tell the truth.  The story was exciting.  I couldn't put it down.  It only took me about 2 hours to finish the book

2.  Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart, Mystery, rating - 4

Four children were chosen after many special tests.  Their job was to find what the message the "Whisper" machine was sending and to stop it.  It's really fun because each child has a special ability

3,  Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey, by Trenton Lee Stewart, Mystery, rating - 5

The four young children set out to find Mr. Benedict who was missing.  The children had to prevent Mr. Benedict's evil twin from finding a dangerous plant.  I enjoy trying to solve the riddles in the story

4.  Fairest by Gail Carson Levine, Fantasy, rating - 5

An ugly girl who sings beautifully wants to be pretty.  An evil queen plans to kill her because she's jealous of her voice.  It had a very surprising ending.  I like this book because it is similar to Snow White

5.  Hoot by Carl Hiaasen, Realistic Fiction, rating - 4

A boy tried to save some endangered owls from a construction site.  A new pancake restaurant was going to be build on top of the owl's barrow.  This story encourage kids like me to protect the environment

6.  Dragon Rider by Carnelia Funke, Fantasy, rating - 4

A boy helps a dragon to save the other dragons from getting eaten by a machine.  He had to learn the secret in destroying the machine.  The book was too long but it was full of action and adventure

7.  Crispin by Avi, Historical Fiction, rating - 3

Crispin's mother died leaving him all alone.  Because Crispin overheard a secret evil plan, he was in danger for his life.  The book is sad because many characters were murdered

8.  Lily's Crossing by Patricia Reilly Giff, Historical Fiction, rating - 5

Lily's father had to go to war, so her summer was not what she had expected.  she met a boy who escaped the war and they helped each other to overcome their problems.  I like how they became friends even though they are very different from each other

9.  Pictures of Hollis Woods by Patricia Reilly Giff, Realistic Fiction, rating - 5

Hollis is an orphan and moved from foster home to foster home.  She ran away from a family who wanted to adapt her.  This is a very touching story.  I like Hollis' character because she is determine and courageous

10.  How To Steal a Dog by Barbara O'Connor, Realistic Fiction, rating - 5

A small poor family was living in their car because they had no money.  The daughter made a plan to steal a dog for money.  I really like this book because it had a step-by-step plan to steal a dog.  I think her plan could really work.

 

Beata Gero - Grade 6  

1) Warriors- Bluestar's Prophecy  

Bluekit is born into ThunderClan, one of the four Clans made up of wild cats who live under the warrior code. She is stuborn and stronge willed from the very start. The moment she opened her eyes her sister Snowfur made her go out of the nursery and into ThunderClan camp where they get into all sorts of mischief. When trouble stirs up with one of the neighboring clans, WindClan, ThuderClan's leader, Pinestar, decides that to keep his warriors calm he makes Bluekit and Snowfur, now six moons (months) old, apprentices, Snowpaw and Bluepaw. But trouble with WindClan continues and Pinestar is forced to battle by an omen from the medicine cat. Bluepaw and Snowpaw attend battle patrol, but not to fight. They are there to help the injured cats get to the apprentice medicine cat, Featherwhisker. As the battle rages on in WindClan's clearing, Moonflower, Bluepaw's mother,is killed. Bluepaw grieves for a long time until her mentor tells her that Moonflower would want her to be a great warrior. She lives the life of an apprentice, until the Clan's loony medicine cat tells her of a prophecy from StarClan, their warrior ansectors. Pinestar becomes a kittypet. Sunstar takes his place. She becomes a warrior, Bluefur and Snowfur. Thislepaw, the cat Snowfur likes, becomes a warrior and they have a kit, Whitkit. Bluefur falls in love with Oakheart a cat from RiverClan, which is against the warrior code, she and Snowfur get in a fight. Snowfur runs of and finds a hunting patrol from ShadowClan. They confront the intruders and chase them back to their own territory. Snowfur gets hit by a car. Bluefur grieves and ignores Whitekit. But she has a dream of him drowning and she starts to focus on her tasks and playing with Whitekit again. She talks to Oakheart again and he says to meet her at Fourtrees. She realizes later that she has kits. Mistykit, Stonekit, and Mosskit. Her Clan thinks that their father is Thruspelt a cat who loves Bluefur. Goosefeather tells her that she must get rid of her kits for they are not part of the prophecy. She gives her kits to Oakheart but Mosskit dies. She pretends a badger or fox took her kits. Tawnyspots the deputy dies and Bluefur becomes deputy. She finds out that Sunstar was only given 8 lives for Pinestar kept his ninth. Hedies and Bluefur becomes Bluestar and they find Thistleclaw by the border in a pool of blood dead.

2) Warriors- Into the Wild  

A housecat or kittypet ventures into the woods one night. He is chasing a mouse when a wild cat, young like him, attacks though without his claws. First he runs, then he thinks and turns around to face the cat. The wild cats are impressed, the leader Bluestar, a warrior named Whitestorm and an apprentice named Greypaw, and ask him if he wishes to join their Clan, ThunderClan. They give him until tomarrow sunhigh to think about it. Next day he agrees and goes into the forest with the clan cats. He becomes an apprentice named Firepaw and gets into bucket loads of mischief with Greypaw; like bringing back a ShadowClan outlaw, named Yellowfang who was their medicine cat. Firepaw comes to the Clan when an apprentice, Ravenpaw, races back and tells everybody that the deputy, REdtail is dead.Lionheart takes his place.  Tigerclaw, Ravenpaw's mentor, says that Oakheart, RiverClan's deputy killed Redtail and that he avenged Redtail's death by killing Oakheart.Lionheart dies in a battle with ShadowClan, Tigerclaw becomes deputy. But Firepaw does not trust Tigerclaw and soon finds out from Ravenpaw that it was Tigerclaw who killed Redtail. Ravenpaw is in danger of his mentor and Greypaw and Firepaw take him to the loaner Barley, who lives on a farm. WindClan, the fourth clan is missing for ShadowClan dove them out. At the end they battle ShadowClan for the kits they stole from ThunderClan, they say Ravenpaw was killed, and become warriors of ThunderClan; Fireheart and Greystripe.

3) Warriors- Fire and Ice

  Newly made warriors Fireheart and Greystripe concentrate on helping their clan. WindClan is still missing and Greystripe and Fireheart must find them.(they do.) They each become mentors. Fireheart is Cinderpaw's mentor and Greystripe is Brackenpaw's mentor. Once, when Fireheart and Greystripe took their apprentices out hunting in leaf-bare, Greystripe chases a squirrle over the frozen river, but the ice brakes and Greystripe falls. A RiverClan she-cat saves his life. They fall in love although it is against the warrior code

4) Warriors- Forest of Secrets

  Fireheart tries to persaude Graystripe that falling in love with Silverstream is going to cause nothing but trouble. Tigerclaw sets a trap for Bluestar (no one suspects its a trap), but Fireheart's apprentice goes to check it out. She gets hit by a car, survives but her leg gets crippled so she can not become a warrior. Silverstream takes Greystripe as a mate. She dies giving birth to their kits.Fireheart brings his sister's kit into the clan. Tigerclaw gathers a band of rogues and attacks the clan in an attemt to kill Bluestar without getting blamed. He gets banished after Fireheart saves her and RiverClan comes to the rescue when they come for Greystripe's kits. Greystripe makes up his mind to let the kits live in RiverClan, but he leaves his birth clan to stay with the kits. Fireheart is crushed.

  

5)Warriors- Bluestar

Bluestar is only a shadow of her former wise self.He trusts no one but Fireheart. Since Cinderpaw can not become a warrior Yellowfang takes her on as her apprentice. (Yellowfang, a ShadowClan outlaw, becomes medicine cat of ThunderClan (she was the ShadowClan medicine cat) after Spottedleaf is killed in Into the Wild without an apprentice.) Cloudkit is now Cloudpaw (Fireheart's kin/apprentice) has a secret that majorly brakes the warrior code. He has been sneaking off to get food from the Twolegs (humans). The people take him away to a different home. Fireheart and Sandstorm go to find him. He is where Ravenpaw and Barley live. Tigerclaw, now a rogue, is still wondering the forest. He attacks a ThunderClan patrol, with his band of rogues. He kills a warrior named Runningwind. In the hot days of summer a forest fire pushes ThunderClan over to RiverClan so they dont die. Fireheart is glad to be with Greystripe again. They go back to ThunderClan territory. Sandstorm takes Fireheart as a mate. Yellowfang, Halftail, and Patchpelt die in the fire. Cinderpaw, now Cinderpelt is now medicine cat. Tigerclaw is now Tigerstar, leader of ShadowClan.   6) Warriors- A Dangerous Path

  Tigerclaw becomes ShadowClan's leader, Tigerstar. In an other attempt to get revenge on his former clan, Tigerstar uses a band of wild dogs (who escaped from some human working place), to kill his old clan. By killing rabbits and leading them to ThunderClan camp. He kills Brindleface, Cloudpaw's foster mother to give the dogs a taste for cat blood. RiverClan and ThunderClan have a battle over Sunningrocks. Greystripe helps Fireheart so Leopardstar banishes him. He is a ThunderClan warrior again. Cloudpaw becomes Cloudtail. Swiftpaw and Brightpaw get angry and go to investigate the wild dogs, for no one knows what they are. Swiftpaw is killed but Brightpaw is still alive although half her face is missing fur and her eye on that side has been damaged. Cloudtail is vey upset, exspecially when she might not live without ever being a warrio. Bluestar says their is a way to make her a warrior. She becomes Lostface. Fireheart comes up with a plan to get rid of the dogs. He resets the rabbit trail so it leads to the gorge. He has cats at a certain point and they must get chased by the dogs. The rest of the clan is safley at Sunningrocks. When its is turn to get chased Fireheart gets followed all the way to the gorge, but the pack leader catches up to him and starts to use him as a chew toy. Bluestar followed the scent of the dogs afetr she realized that her clanmates are not traitors. She saves Fireheart but she falls into the gorge along with the pack leader. Fireheart jumps in to save her. When he finally gets a hold of her the river is not as deep. Stonefur and Mistyfoot help him get Bluestar out. Although she is dying she apologizes to her kits for giving them away and thanks Fireheart for everything he's done. Bluestar dies.

7) Warriors- The Darkest Hour

  Fireheart is now Firestar leader of ThunderClan his deputy Whitestorm. Tigerstar urges the 3 other clans to join him and create a new TigerClan or be forced to. RiverClan joins but soon regrets it as Tigerstar desroys their land. But power over two clans is not enough for Tigestar. He invites a fierce group of rogues who live in  Twolegplace to live in the forest known as BloodClan. RiverClan, WindClan and ThunderClan join together as LionClan to defeat ShadowClan and BloodClan. Scourge, leader of BloodClan kills Tigerstar and battle erupts. Whitestorm is killed and imidiatly Firestar makes Greystripe his deputy. Scourge thinks h kills Firestar but Firestar has nine lives and kills Scourge. BloodClan scatters and the clans go back to being four instead of three.

8) Warriors- Special Edition- Firestar's Quest

Firestar gets nightmares of cats in distress. He soon finds out that there were once five clans living in the forest- ThunderClan, ShadowClan, RiverClan, WindClan and SkyClan. He learns that SkyClan's territory was desroyed and that when they found a new one they had an enemy that was dangerous so the clan scattered. it is up to Firestar to find the lost clan and reunite them so the warrior code can live on. He and Sandstorm set out to find the place where SkyClan settled. They have a hard journey, meeting new cats and haveing to travel in unknown territory. They find the place, they also find a cat named Sky whos grandmother's mother was a part of the lost clan. He helps reunite the clan so that he may live on in peace. Firestar must find kittypets and rogues who are related to these ancient cats. When the clan has enough members, Sanstorm and Firestar teach them what it means to be a clan cat and how to live by the warrior code. They must defeat the clan's ancient enemy, a group of rats who has a leader that speaks cat. When the battle is won Leafdapple becomes leader. The clan is now alive again and Firestar an Sandstorm go home. Sandstorm has two kits: Squirrelkit and Leafkit.

 

Maddy Trussell - Grade 8

Notes From the Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick

This exciting book grabs you, and hold you there as one evening, Alex Peter Gregory, a sixteen year old high school junior living with his mother while his parent fight through a less than cordial divorce, puts in to motion what he feels is a brilliant plan at the time, but then hours later, when he's in the hospital realizes that he's in more trouble than the usual anxiety ridden teenager, struggling with divorced parents. You follow Alex through his problems dealing with falling in love with his best friend, with his arrest, with his parents divorce, and through the life lesson he's about to learn.
I loved the book, Notes From The Midnight Driver by Jordan Sonnenblick because it really captured me and kept me wanting to read this book. I would give it 5 stars, and I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a good mystery.

Count Olaf is after Violet, Klaus, and Sunny again. He follows them to their Uncle's house. A murder and a mystery will be solved by only them, but is Olaf to blame?

Series of Unfortunate Events #3 by Lemony Snickett
